On behalf of the Gr. 8 band students at Pacific Academy, our Principal Mr. Rob Teasdale, and myself, please let me thank you again for your wonderful hospitality on April 22nd. You have a wonderful school, and we very much enjoyed playing for the students at Abby Traditional.
- Mr. Caswell, Pacific Academy Teacher
An overdue thank you for your support, yet again, of our Haiti project. The students who helped out were GREAT. We filled 450 individual bags with school supplies in the morning, had a pizza lunch on you (Chad Radons helped with this), and then had nine students help us finish up in the afternoon.
Please thank Chad and all the students who helped especially Jessica Dhaliwal, Ali Ferguson, Kirat Saran, Harmeet Gill, Jasdeep Gill, Melissa Salter, Lindsay Hughes, Leigh Watkins, and Rebecca Brotherwood who were our afternoon helpers.
- Mr. Petersen, Heart To Heart For Haiti
Dear Mr. Jason Parker,
I just wanted to thank you for allowing us to visit your school last week. I enjoyed the visit very much and found it to be a valuable experience. It was nice to see what a traditional school looks like and how it operates. I was really impressed with how your school focuses on respect and preparing students to be life long learners. I think the respect aspect is so important to teach children, especially during a time that children seem to be losing that concept in everyday life. I also liked how the school combines traditional values and beliefs with a modern twist, such as using laptops in the classroom.
I was especially impressed by the middle school. As someone who has always focused on elementary teaching, the middle school environment appealed to me so much, that I am now considering it as an alternate option. The teachers we talked to were very friendly and easy to talk to, and the environment was so positive and energetic. I also liked how the teachers taught in teams, the students are a great age group and just the overall values your school practices identified with my own values and beliefs.
- SFU Student Teacher
We have home-schooled our children for four years. As second generation home-schoolers, deciding to place our kids in 'the system' was extremely daunting and stressful. Our experience moving from the home classroom to the school classroom was a surprisingly easy transition. We find the traditional style - which focuses on respect and responsibility - really fits with our family values...We feel our school is partnering with us to grow our children to be respectful, contributing members of society that every parent dreams of for their children...We feel we are no longer alone on the parenting journey. - Traditional Parent
We can drop our children off in the morning with complete confidence that they will be taught in a structured, quiet environment that encourages learning.
- Traditional Parent
Traditional is great! The teachers are very supportive of the children's learning and encourage parents to get involved. Being a single mum has been challenging, but the school has been so supportive and understanding. It is truly my second family!
- Traditional Parent
Having our children in the traditional school program has developed good study habits, ensured strong basic skills, and fostered a discipline ethic that involves success both in and out of school. These aspects of the program at King as well as many others have been invaluable to our children's education and will serve them well in the future.

School Calendar Revised for 2010-2011
The Abbotsford Board of Education has moved to go back to its recent practice of adopting a local school calendar with a two week spring break. Once again, the remaining school days would be lengthened to allow for instructional time to be recovered.
The school calendar was revisited at the May 31 regular meeting of the Board. Trustees approved a motion that reads:
That the Board of Education adopt a Local School Calendar which includes the BC Standard Calendar week of March 21-25, 2011 and days in lieu for March 14-18, 2011 to provide for a two week spring break for the 2010/2011 school year; and
Further, that the Board of Education proceed on June 1, 2010 with employee group discussions in keeping with Section 54 of the BC Labour Code in regards to providing the days in lieu.
“We acknowledge the community members who took time to make their views known to Trustees and the District over recent weeks” added Chair Schafer.
The school year will commence September 7, 2010 and end June 30, 2011.
ATSS School Fees 2010-2011
Trustees approved student fees, deposits, and academy fees for the 2010/2011 school year. The School
Act, Section 87(4) permits a Board to charge a deposit for educational resources. Schools may charge
deposits for materials given to students and provide refunds upon return, subject to District Policy 9.230,
‘School Fees’. District standardized fees are set in three areas:
- Parking Permits at Secondary schools: $16
- Graduation Fee (basic cost): up to $35
- Student Activity Fee for Middle and Secondary schools: $30 to cover costs of student agendas, guest
speakers, student cards, school events, student recognition, student leadership, lock and locker rental.

South Polar's Spring Carnival A Success!
After months of planning and lots of preparation, our school
community finally saw May 28th roll around on the calendar! It
was fun to watch the students throughout the day on Friday as
parents were setting up. The chatter, extra long looks, giggles,
smiles, whispering, and excitement was all us parents needed
to be inspired to have this event ready for them by 5pm!
The line up stretched out into the parking lot and when the
doors opened, the kids raced off to an assortment of brand new
games that will be around South Poplar for years to come. They
jumped and bounced in castles and shot really big basketballs
into a gigantic hoop. An incredibly popular portable saw henna,
face painting, and tattoos going non-stop all evening. Parents
milled about the Library bidding on over 55 items that were
donated, hoping that their bid would stand in the end. And the
Carnival smell of cotton candy, popcorn, and pizza filled the air.
What an awesome way to spend a Friday night as a
family! Plus we were able to raise
approximately $2400 for new PAC initiatives
coming in the 2010-11 school year!
There are so many moms, dads, teachers,
businesses, and organizations to thank for all the
hard work, donations, and time that you put in to
make this year's Spring Carnival a huge success.
The PAC would like to thank all of you for all your
efforts and generous hearts.
We also want to thank the 25 high school students
from Central Heights Church and another 10 "older kids" from South Poplar families who
volunteered for the entire evening running games,
the inflatables, face painting, and henna.
Collectively, these amazing teenagers put in over
125 volunteer hours in one night! We couldn't have
done it without you!
And last but certainly not least. .. a huge thank you
to Amanda, Becky, Garth, Eileen, Helen, Karen,
Mike, Nicki, Sharla, and Tara! These were the key
people who put countless numbers of hours into
planning every last detail; who designed and built
the new South Poplar games, searched high and
low for donations, collected prizes, shopped for all
the supplies, organized our fabulous volunteers,
set up, and ran the Spring Carnival. They worked
so well together as a team and had a lot of fun
pulling off this event!
